When a spill occurs, acting quickly is the best way to go when it comes to stains. If your fabrics are more or less stain proof, and the stains are fresh, you’re probably able to get it out on your own at home. Below are the steps to remove coffee and tea, or even chocolate stains.

Even if you spill coffee on the morning of a busy day, it doesn’t need to ruin it. To get out coffee stains, do the following:

1. Blot, Do Not Rub: You should get a clean cloth, or, if you do not have any, a paper towel, to immediately and gently blot the spill with coffee. It is important not to rub it, as that will only get the coffee deeper into the cloth. It is also important to blot from the outside of the stain, and inward, as that will prevent the stain from spreading.
2. Rinse with Cold Water: You should flip that piece of clothing inside out, and under the stain, and run the back side of the stain under some cold running water. This will help to get the coffee out of the fabric and also will help make sure the stain doesn’t get any worse.
3. Apply a Cleaning Solution: Get a quart of cold water, and mix one tablespoon of white vinegar and one tablespoon of laundry soap into it. Get a clean cloth, and with the mixture, gently sponge it onto the stain, and let it sit for about 15 minutes.
4. Rinse and Wash: If you don’t see the stain anymore, you can continue washing the item like you normally do. But before you put it in the dryer, check to see if the stain is gone. Once you put the stain in the dryer, the heat will set the stain and it will be hard to get out.
